Daily 5- (Monday, Wednesday and Friday)
Daily 5- In our classroom we have been working on rotating through Language stations. At first we started small by the whole class doing the same station for a small amount of time. We then built up to the whole class working together rotating through some stations during our work period. Building on that as a class we rotated through all five stations together. In the last few weeks before spring break students were able to work with their small group and rotate through 5 different stations. At first we practiced each station for a little amount of time and finally built up to working for anywhere from 15 - 20 minutes per station. It is recommended that a timer is set and when the buzzer goes off give yourself a few minutes (2 mins. usually) to get settled into the next station.

Read to self- Ahh perfect! Grab a great book and enjoy! This may also be a great time to read to your younger sibling, dog, cat or pet rock! With some assistance from an adult you can also record yourself reading and send it to me!
Listen to reading- A class favourite! Please do not forget about Epic Books! Remember epic books does not like internet explorer please use google chrome! Select your own name and not your colour group! Our class code is...... kyz0153.
Meet with teacher- This is going to look little different now that we are learning and teaching from a distance! Please click on the video link in the weekly time table to listen to your lesson! Enjoy.
Word Work - This weeks spelling pattern is " Long O"
Please choose 12 spelling words. Choose six words that you think you may be easier to spell and six words that will challenge your learning. Remember it took us a few weeks to find the right balance bewteen too easy and too tricky! If you can think of some additional words that follow the spelling pattern please add them to the list.
Word Work Ideas-
- Write your words in alphabetical order
- Rainbow write your words.
- Practice handwriting and write your words
- Write your words in white crayon and colour over in marker! Watch them appear!
Writing- Take this time and start a covid-19 journal. Record what you are doing during the days. Perhaps what you miss about school, how you are feeling that day or write a creative story. Do not forget capital letters, punctuation and to use triple scoop words.

On Tuesdays I will post a video explaining todays lesson. Students can watch the lesson and then complete their assigned work in their writing package. For the month of April we are focusing on non-fiction text. Specifically how to write instructions, directions and procedures.
Novel Study - (Thursday)
Every Thursday I will read a few chapters of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Ronald Dahl. If you have a copy of the book students are welcome to read at their own pace. It is also available online in pdf format as well as on youtube.
We will read a few chapters every week and work through the novel study package. It will take us all of April, May and June to read through this classic. We will discussing character development, story sequencing and practice our visualization reading strategy.
