In our grade four class we have taken great pride in our math structure and routine. I am so proud of how hard all the students have worked and how much they love engaging with the material. As with the daily 5 literacy rotations we started slow when introducing our math stations. We started by all doing them together for a short amount of time and then slowly built to students working mostly independently in groups.
Each math rotation can last as long as the student is engaged and learning. However, usually in our classroom they lasted for approx. 13 - 15 mins. depending on interest level and time.
Before starting our math rotations we would always start with a number talk (number of the day), then start with a lesson, practice the new concept and solidify new skills by playing math games.
Math Stations - (Tuesday & Thursday)
Number of the day-In your number of the day booklet flip to the suggested page that I will be discussing during todays lesson. Try writing the number in as may ways as possible. Try and work through the question on the back. Record your reflection in full sentences.
Lesson - Click on the provided link and listen to your math lesson for the day. Please call or email me if you have any questions.
Practice work - In your math focus workbook or your extra practice booklet flip to the required pages. Try to complete them to the best of your ability. Good Luck!
Games - The best way to improve your numeracy skills is to keep practicing. Spend some time with a partner and play a math game. Work on addition, subtraction, multiplication, telling time or counting money! These are all great foundation skills that can be strengthened.
Math Practice- (Monday & Wednesday)
Practice workbook- Please make sure before you play any math game that most of your practice work is complete. Try and do what you can!
Mathletics - Log on to athletics to practice and play with math!
Math Journal & Games - (Friday)
Journal Entry - Please look at the weekly timeline for this weeks journal entry. It will be a deep thinking question that could have many different answers. Try and use as many different math strategies, or answers to solve the questions.
